Healthy Rivers, Vibrant Lives

Healthy rivers support thriving communities. Through education, outreach and community partnerships, this program connects people with the knowledge and resources needed to support local conservation efforts.

Our Healthy Rivers, Vibrant Lives Program

Our Healthy Rivers, Vibrant Lives Program supports community-centric river conservation throughout Colorado, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico.

The Southwest is already a dry region—and temperatures are rising faster than anywhere else in the lower 48 states. Rivers, streams, wetlands and lakes all suffer as these snow-melt fed ecosystems face declining snowfall.

Grantmaking through this program focuses on community-inspired projects. All projects must demonstrate inclusion in project planning and execution by actively seeking and valuing a variety of perspectives, backgrounds and experiences from the communities the project will serve.

Together, we can building awareness, strengthen connections and inspire stewardship to protect rivers for generations to come.

Our current strategic priorities include:

  • Connecting communities to their rivers
  • Conservation strengthened by the people it serves, regardless of identity
  • Protecting rivers, lakes and streams
  • Restoring the dynamic and natural geomorphic processes of freshwater ecosystems
  • Safeguarding our way of life
  • Collaborative and forward-thinking solutions that protect quality of life for generations to come

Our Grantees

Since our inception in 2018, we have invested over $4 million in the rivers and streams supporting rural and underserved communities.
