Little Salt: The Story of the Colorado Basin
The Colorado River Basin touches millions of lives, yet few people understand just how connected we are to its future.

From farmers and ranchers to Tribal communities, recreationists and growing cities, every drop of water supports the people, wildlife and landscapes that make the American Southwest unique. But as drought, population growth and a changing climate place increasing demands on the river, the conversations surrounding its future have become more complex than ever.
That's where Little Salt begins.
What started as a lighthearted adventure to kayak a small drainage outside Fruita, Colorado, quickly evolved into something much bigger. As filmmakers followed the water, they uncovered a web of history, policy and competing perspectives that shape life throughout the Colorado River Basin.
Rather than searching for simple answers, Little Salt explores the people whose lives are connected by water.
The documentary follows farmers working to preserve a way of life, Tribal communities advocating for long-overdue water rights, conservationists protecting rivers and wildlife, policymakers navigating difficult decisions and a new generation of voices helping more people understand why water matters. Though each perspective is different, they all share one thing in common: a deep connection to the Colorado River.

The film reminds us that water isn't simply a resource. It's the thread that connects our communities, our economies, our wildlife and our future. Through powerful storytelling and breathtaking shots, Little Salt invites viewers to look beyond headlines and discover the people, places and decisions shaping one of the West's most important rivers.
As conversations about the future of the Colorado River continue, stories like Little Salt help build understanding, encourage collaboration and inspire the next generation of river stewards.
